History
of Torrevieja
Torrevieja
is just 45km south of the provincial capital Alicante; it
is an old fishing village with its own harbour, the men of
the village used to do what we call night fishing where they
used an artificial light to attract fishes like red mullet
to the nets. In the 18th century, large amounts of salt were
discovered in the lagoon, today the salt works in Torreviaeja
are to be considered the second largest in the world. Surrounded
by the Mediterranean on one side and acres upon acres of fruit
groves on the mainland the scenery is both breathtaking and
picturesque.
With an average temperature of 20c and over 300 days of sunshine
a year what are you waiting for?

is wide. Golf has very much become a people's sport, which
the Spanish have sensed, building new courses all the time.
Thousands of Northern Europeans are attracted to the Costa
Blanca each winter to practice their favourite sport.
Villamartin:
This tournament course is located ten kilometres south of
Torrevieja and offers many possibilities. It spreads out on
a beautiful area and has been built in great harmony with
the surrounding nature. The Mediterranean Open was played
in 1994 on this course, which is a good choice for those who
seek a challenging game. A great number of olive trees give
the fairways a special look.
La Marquesa:
Located in a valley just north of Torrevieja, it has many
water obstacles and is regarded as a simple but very enjoyable
course.
Altorreal:
A highly visited course in the region of Murcia. The degree
of difficulty is much increased by a number of water obstacles.
Las Ramblas:
This is one of the shortest courses, but it is also considered
to be among the most difficult ones and is a definite choice
for those seeking challenges. Every shot demands consideration
and planning. The high trees, the narrow fairways and various
ravines make Las Ramblas an experience out of the ordinary,
a truly unforgettable course. It is located near Villamartin.
